Orb

Orb is one my favorite new services that I have come across and unlike many fun apps, this is one TRULY meaningful service! In short, Orb allows you remote access to your PC media (pics, videos, music) via a web portal that you can access via any phone that supports streaming media. You can also access EVERY file on your computer as long as your phone has a doc viewer program.

1. Say you are in a meeting and you need access to a last months sales reports, visit mycast.orb.com, login, and boom there is your file.
2. What if you have photos from last years vacation you want to show?
3. What if you have DRM protected music in Itunes that wont transfer to your phone--just play it via Orb.
4. If you have an iPhone you can even broadcast live content.
5. If you have a TV tuner card in your computer just connect your cable and you will have access to live TV...anywhere!

To set this up, you actually just download Orb to your PC (need XP or Vista) here. After its downloaded you will create an account which then makes the content accessible via the secure portal.

YouTube Player: built by Google

Is it any surprise that Google has built one of the best on device players for YouTube videos? Afterall, they do own YouTube!

We have used this player to watch all of YouTube's latest video additions, including, classic TV shows (McGyver is a favorite), the fast food documentary Super Size Me, and tons of user posted videos. This player is a great way to kill downtime in any airport, lobby, doctors office, or just around the home.

You can download it to any Symbian phone by visiting m.google.com/youtube from the phone's browser. Check out the video below.

BlackBerry just released App World today. We loaded App World on a Bold for a review, and it appears to be everything you would hope for. You can surf through all kinds of apps and read information, see screenshots, add and read reviews and even recommend. There are paid and free apps as well. If you are a BlackBerry user, this is a must have. If you are not a BlackBerry user, it just got much more compelling to consider the switch.

Google Latitude

WHAT IT IS: Google Latitude is a new feature available in updated versions of Google Maps that lets you see the "real-time" position of any friends, family, workers, etc. that agree to let you track them. You can choose if your friends can see your exact location OR just what city you're in. You can even decide when to turn it off altogether.

WHY IT'S COOL: Imagine you are meeting a friend downtown and want to see if they have left yet...just pull up Google Maps and check their location to see if they are on the move or even how close they are. Maybe you work when your kid comes home from school and you would like to make sure they get home OK. Maybe you even lost your phone and you just need to locate the place that you left it. Trust me, Latitude is SWEET!

GET IT: Download Google maps. See Spring Mobile post here. You will also need a Google account and Data Unlimited if you don't already.

Google Sync (beta)

WHAT IT IS: Google has developed an app that syncs (wirelessly) your contact and calendar info between your phone and your Google account.

WHY ITS COOL: The biggest challenge to switching phones, losing phones, or updating phones has to be content management. Previously only people who used corporate servers could wirelessly sync and backup personal info. Now with Google sync you just leave the program on in the background and your phone is updated. If you make changes on your phone, your Google account is updated and vice versa. This is simply the easiest and coolest way to maintain your info securely. Forget about connecting to your computer!

GET IT: visit m.google.com/sync from your phone and download. You will need to sign up for a Google account and have Data
Ulimited if you don't already.

Slacker: Free Streaming Music for BlackBerry

Slacker.com has just released a new mobile app for the BlackBerry. You need to have version 4.3 or higher (4.5 recommended).

Why its cool: The app provides a sweet solution for streaming music on BlackBerrys comparable to Pandora. Slacker has a sweet album art interface, lets you learn more about any artist through the menu, mulitask, make your own stations, listen to pre-established stations, and you can even "cache" stations.

Caching lets you listen even if you dont have a wireless connection. This is done by storing music on your memory card. To enable caching on any station select it form the menu. You will then need to plug your phone into your computer, select "mass storage mode" on your phone, and then select Slacker Station Loader on your computer. Next time you want to listen to the station(s) they are ready!

Slacker (free version) lets you skip up to 6 songs an hour per station and has a few random commmercials--don't worry after listening for 1 hour we only noticed two commercials. There is also a premium version for 3.99/month that gives unlimited skipping, no commercials, and allows you to download songs to your phone that you like.

To get it on your phone just go to slacker.com from your phones browser. Unlimited data and a memory card with 500mb free (cache) are a must.

FlipSide: Mobile Music Player

FlipSide is the coolest way to listen to your music (even if its on a memory card) if you own a BlackBerry or Windows Mobile phone. Flipside uses album art to organize your music (think iPhone) and makes listening to music on your phone cool again. Just click on any album art & watch it rotate over to list the songs you have from that album!

Some of my favorite features include the ability to find missing album art via the menu option, easily create playlists, and click to learn more information about any song.

The application is $19.95 and can be downloaded from electricpocket.com/flipside. There is a free three day trial to preview this app so you have no excuse.
