Facebook: take it with you...

This is well overdue, but better late than never...

What it is: For those of you (like me) that are Facebook naive, I will attempt to summarize this web service. Facebook is a social networking site that connects you to other friends that you approve as people you know and want to share updates (pictures, status, and profile info) with. Facebook offers mobile applications that integrate really well with their services.

Why its cool: After signing up I was surprised by the various work, high school, college, family, and others that were able to locate me. I was able to reconnect with old acquaintances and keep on pulse on people that I care about incredibly simple. With my mobile app I can upload photos, be alerted when a Friend leaves a message, and even send messages to other friends.

How To Get It: 1. Sign up at Facebook and create your profile. 2. Blackberry Users: visit www.blackberry.com/facebook from your phone 3. Windows Mobile (check back soon)4. Symbian (check back soon)

Google Latitude

WHAT IT IS: Google Latitude is a new feature available in updated versions of Google Maps that lets you see the "real-time" position of any friends, family, workers, etc. that agree to let you track them. You can choose if your friends can see your exact location OR just what city you're in. You can even decide when to turn it off altogether.

WHY IT'S COOL: Imagine you are meeting a friend downtown and want to see if they have left yet...just pull up Google Maps and check their location to see if they are on the move or even how close they are. Maybe you work when your kid comes home from school and you would like to make sure they get home OK. Maybe you even lost your phone and you just need to locate the place that you left it. Trust me, Latitude is SWEET!

GET IT: Download Google maps. See Spring Mobile post here. You will also need a Google account and Data Unlimited if you don't already.

Google Sync (beta)

WHAT IT IS: Google has developed an app that syncs (wirelessly) your contact and calendar info between your phone and your Google account.

WHY ITS COOL: The biggest challenge to switching phones, losing phones, or updating phones has to be content management. Previously only people who used corporate servers could wirelessly sync and backup personal info. Now with Google sync you just leave the program on in the background and your phone is updated. If you make changes on your phone, your Google account is updated and vice versa. This is simply the easiest and coolest way to maintain your info securely. Forget about connecting to your computer!

GET IT: visit m.google.com/sync from your phone and download. You will need to sign up for a Google account and have Data
Ulimited if you don't already.
