Cinemagram

Cinemagram  is the new Instagram. Well maybe not, but it's pretty fun regardless. You could call it a hybrid between photo and video, allowing you to bring your photos to life through small animations. You can also apply vintage/cross processing filters to give your photo a little extra character. Check out some of the "trending cines."

Here's how it works:
1) Film a short video clip 2-3 seconds
2) Animate a small region
3) Apply awesome Xpro, vintage filters
4) Blow up your social media feeds (twitter, fb & tumblr)

Instead

"Instead" is a smartphone app, which allows you to donate to a non-profit of your choice. The idea is to save money by eating more efficiently, but then to donate the difference. For example, if your coworker says, "lets go to Cheesecake Factory" and you reply, "i brought my own lunch." You can then input the amount of money you think you are saving. I haven't used this app, but I like the design and more importantly I especially love when developers think outside of the box. Check out the developer site or to download visit the Apple App Store. Once again the app is called "Instead."

Wake N Shake Alarm Clock

I realize the majority of us will probably want to sleep in this weekend, but for the early risers or individuals who favor the snooze button this app may be the solution to waking on time. To use this app, set the alarm. Once the alarm goes off, SHAKE your phone as hard as you can to shut it off! For support or any other information check out the Wake n Shake website. Wake up anywhere with Anywake

Anywake is an alarm clock app that will "take you places." To start, the app allows you to choose a sound to wake up to everyday. About every other day you will wake up to the sound of a different city, which is randomly selected. Turn the alarm off by guessing which city it's coming from. If you snooze or guess wrong then you lose. If you guess right, you get a discount on a plane ticket to that city! The app is available for the iPhone and Android systems. It's that time of year where MLB is taking over the airwaves. The question is, which app to use for updates? While there are plenty of MLB apps to choose from, ESPN Score Center seems to be a one of the most reliable FREE apps. Score Center offers scores, news, and live coverage giving you the option to launch a "live game cast." Currently available for iPhone and Android.

The Slow Down App

This is a pretty interesting app that uses GPS to determine your driving speed. If you drive over the speed limit the app will slow your music down, eventually turning it off completely (if driving 10 mph over). The only downside is that Slow Down is available for the iPhone only at this time.

Songza: Playlists For Everything.

Songza is a web radio that streams music for free, similar to Pandora. The difference is the playlists are handpicked, even allowing you to put together your own playlist. It allows you to like/dislike songs. From a personal experience, I enjoy Songza's ability to more consistently play songs from the searched artist, while discovering new music. I also enjoy the number of playlists there are to choose from, based on activity, mood, genre, decade, or events such as Coachella 2011. This app serves as an alternative to calorie or carb counting. It encourages how you are eating overall vs. obsessing over detailed nutrition numbers. The eatery encourages you to document your meals or snacks, the app then plots your eating trends pointing out "bad/silent habits" and help you improve them. While I am no expert, I do enjoy applications that have the potential to benefit our general well being. Give it a try!
